In less than five years, Teazer World Tea Market has become a staple of Fresnos Tower District.

Since opening in August 2004, Teazers inventory, business and support has grown significantly. For the second year in a row, Teazer has won the Peoples Choice Award.

Five years ago it was a difficult concept, says Ann Wen-yi McAtee, coowner and founder. But now its much better. Teazer was inspired by Anns years as a bartender and her upbringing in a Taiwan herb shop. The combination of the two is the basis for Teazers drinks.

Its like a tea cocktail with the philosophy of Chinese herbs. Dress up the drink with different colors. We started with 35 different kinds of tea. Based on customers questions and market accessibility, we are currently carrying 110 different kinds of tea. None of the staff, whom Ann calls tea-tenders, wear a name tag. That is by design. She wants employees and customers to get to know each other through familiarity.

Id much rather recognize whos ordering from me and know what youre drinking, Ann says. Chances are next time I see your face, Ill remember what youre drinking.

Ann describes Teazer as Californiastyle, with a wider selection than Chinese tea shops and more relaxed than English-style tea shops where reservations sometimes are needed.

Were catering to our people. The way we do things is different. Were firstcome, first-served, and were there all the time, 14 hours a day and we just wait. Ann bubbles with excitement when talking about her business, her employees and her customers.

Were so happy. To have something you love dearly and youre not alone, thats great, says Ann, who attributes Teazers success to a great staff. When people say they choose our tea house, not only for our product, we also know we have a good team. This is a big recognition for us, especially the second year. The first time could be luck. I told everybody I work with thank you very much and Im looking for the third one.
