Description:

The Scene: A kitschy 1956-vintage Japanese restaurant in downtown with a flashing neon sign, the Tokyo Garden cocktail lounge looks like an unlikely spot for alternative rock. But with a fully stocked bar and an eclectic crowd pumped up for live music, the restaurant transforms itself with a small stage and plenty of guitars. Every Saturday night at 10, bands play to a pink boa-wearing and leather-clad crowd. Expect a modest cover, and be sure to argue the doorman down if it's more than $3. Friday is karaoke night, a phenomenon that hasn't disappeared from the Fresno repertoire; fortunately, the liquor doesn't stop pouring until the last person leaves.
